First Day at IPG

After 17 years of teaching at school, finally, I am promoted to be a lecturer at IPGTHO. My first week here is full with Kursus Induksi Dalaman and we learnt many terms we must know as a lecturer. For example, PPISMP, PISMP, KDC, WAJ and so on. This course is timely as it equipped us with the knowledge we have not been exposed to before this.

Zeal in English

As an English teacher, I was not born in an English-spoken family. Both my parents are Chinese, they speak Mandarin and Hokkien. I was sent to a Chinese primary school at SJK(C) Ai Chun 2 in Batu Pahat, Johor. I learnt Mandarin most of the time and English was learnt little at that time.
Learning English was not easy for me but I know English is important. When I continued my secondary school at SMK Convent, I envied my Chinese friends who had already started to speak in English to those who came from SK Convent who spoke only English. All our teachers spoke English, even teacher who taught History also spoke English. I felt inferior when I was shy to speak English. So I tried to expose myself to English by listening to English songs and writing letters to friends from overseas. I am a Christians, I also have the chance to meet friends from Holland, America and Belgium who came to serve at our local congregation.
When I became a teacher at SJKC Kong Nan, Pt Raja, Johor, I taught English and Mandarin. After that, I furthered my studies at UPM and took TESL degree course. Then, I was transferred to SMK Semerah and taught only English for seven years. My zeal in learning English did not diminish, I continued my studies to master in TESL again and applied for a lecturer at IPG. Finally, I become a lecturer at IPG Kampus Tun Hussein Onn since January 2013. I enjoy my teaching career as an English lecturer and I will continue to brush up my English now and then.
